FAQ

How long will it take?
There are many factors associated with time of healing. Some people respond to care very fast, whereas others may not. Chiropractic Care in our practice is usually recommended and provided as a series of visits over a period of time – Just like a consistent program of exercise to get fit and strong. Once you feel better, and the healing starts, preventing its reoccurrence is just as important as the initial remedy.

What is a Subluxation?
When joints of the body fail to function normally, they lose their position and adopt abnormal movement patterns. This is called a Subluxation, which can occur at any joint, and especially in the spine. This irritation to the bones and cartilage of the joint, stabilizing ligaments, supporting muscles and delicate nerves, can result in various symptoms not limited to headaches/migraines, neck & back pain, arm & leg pain, dizziness, shooting pains, numbness, tingling and muscle spasms.

There are many components of subluxation which need to be addressed, including the bony, muscular, nervous, soft tissue, and chemical components.

How do you get subluxations?
There are three basic causes of subluxation. Physical causes include slips and falls, accidents, repetitive actions, improper lifting and poor posture. Work stress, anger and unhappiness are common mental-emotional causes, while common chemical causes are alcohol, drugs, and unhealthy food. Subluxation patterns usually build up over time, and worsen as it progresses.

How do I know if I have a subluxation?
You can have a subluxation without even knowing it. Like tooth decay or cancer, subluxations can be present before any obvious symptoms appear. A chiropractic check up and examination can alert us to any subluxation patterns.

What is an Adjustment?
Adjustments are used to correct subluxations and retrain the spine. The chiropractic adjustment is a quick thrust applied to a joint for the purpose of correcting its position,

and/or movement. Adjustments are often accompanied by a release of gas that sounds like a “crack.” There are times it is not heard, and either way is acceptable.

What is the Nervous System?
The nerve system is a vast network of fibres, similar to an electrical wiring system. It carries messages between the brain and ALL body parts, including your muscles, limbs and organs. The purpose of the nerve system is to connect a communication network between your brain to all these areas to facilitate optimal control and co-ordination, ultimately maximising your performance potential.

Is Chiropractic Safe?
Yes. A 2008 study, published in Spine journal found that patients are no more likely to suffer a stroke following chiropractic care than they would after visiting their family doctor’s office. Furthermore, the side effects of taking over-the-counter pain medications or more lethal prescription drugs are much more risky.

Recent research(1) published in 2001 in the Canadian Medical Association Journal puts the risk of side effects at one in 5.85 million adjustments. Overall, a ratio of one to two cases per million neck adjustments represents a conservative and generally recognized estimate.(2) That is less than your risk of getting struck by lightning or of dying while skiing or playing soccer.(3)
